Who doesn’t love Dolly Parton? Covington was beyond excited to find out that Dolly Parton’s upcoming television-movie inspired by her phenomenal life-story will be filmed in Covington! This TV-movie, ”Coat of Many Colors,” is inspired by one of Parton’s many hit songs, which is, too, named “Coat of Many Colors.”
We were so excited to hear this news that we did a little research and found in an article published by Yahoo on September 2, 2015, that according to NBC’s official description of the project, the movie “takes place inside the tight-knit Parton family as they struggle to overcome devastating tragedy and discover the healing power of love, faith, and a raggedy patchwork coat that helped make Parton who she is today,”
The movie mainly focuses on Parton as a young child. The film stars Alyvia Alyn Lind, who plays the then 9-year-old Dolly. The film also features many other award winning stars including Ricky Schroder, who you likely recognize from NYPD Blue, and the Grammy-award winning country artist Jennifer Nettles. Nettles even dyed her hair for this Dolly Parton memoir and will be seen as a brunette in the TV-film.
The much anticipated TV-movie, though filmed in Covington, is to take place in the Smoky Mountains found in Tennessee. While the movie is centered around Dolly Parton, it’s not a full “bio-pic” as it mainly focuses on the life events that young Parton and her family faced around the time that she was 9 years old. This exciting TV-film will be released on December 10th at 9 pm on NBC.
